My first brief was called object, I had to create an image in a studio environment on a Large format camera, then Printed in colour in the dark room.
I Straight away wanted to base my project on my dad, I always make work on him as its a nice way to keep him on my mind. I first looked into sites like ' things organised neatly ' possibly making a piece photographed from above of several items that meant something to him, I then realised after my lecture with tom that it didn't really have a lot of meaning to it.
After finding work from Indre Serpytyte which had so many meaning in it using just single items presenting in such a interesting way. So I decided to photograph 2 items, his hat, that he wore when we went on holidays & special occasions, I think he felt different in it & as if it was his identity but I know he loved it & it meant a lot to him. In the hat I tucked in his wedding flower which he wore the whole week until he passed.
In the final photograph I left a lot of dark black space at the top to represent both anger which he had so much off, I never really knew where it came from, but he always took it out on me probably because it felt safe. And also the times me & my dad didnt really get along full stop. The flower shows the time I did have with him & really enjoyed, ofcourse I wish it was longer, but Im glad Ive now got memorys to share & remember.
Environmental -
For my environmental project I had to create 3 images exploring my ideas + a pastiche of a chosen image ( which went slightly wrong )
For my pastiche, I chose the image by Jem southam, shot at sea ford concentrating on Erosion over time.
I though that I had to make my own interpretation on the image using the same idea's & composision. I
waited for the right time & photographed down at the esplanade standing on the breakwater ( which jem mentions in his work ) .
I used the same composition, which in my eyes looks like a large Backwards L, then replaced the rocks with houses, showing how we are now trying to slow down erosion of the land due to housing and built up area's.
I found out very close to the deadline, & couldn't get to the coast, Im more than happy to reshoot if I have a bit more time given, would be really appreciated!
For my own three images I struggled a lot to think of idea's first I wanted to do, living in the landscape, about people escaping from society, but I think I would like to do that for another project and spend more time on it.
I then looked into secret play area's which I lost love for, so I decided to concentrate on ' traces of humans in the landscape ' Exploring for large & small effects made by us in unbuilt up area's.
I shot 1 of what I though was a canal, but see'ing a tunnel I found further up, I think it was a railway thats just full up with water, the layer of green on top almost looks like you can walk on it, and the items sticking out look like theyv'e been clean cut and stuck on top.
for my second I set up a tent outside the entrance to the tunnel which took me so long to find. I suppose I wanted to get that kind of exploring feel, a person looking for themself and making the most of life. these are usally the people that leave interesting things behind.
for my final I photographed a house so far away from the village, makes you think why some people feel the need to be so distant from everyone else and would be nice to know the story, so I shot it with just the roof sticking out, giving it that hidden feeling, blending in with the landscape.
