setbuild

Few images from the set build.

1 - Is a piece I sourced from the proper house, it was a tray but we used it as a wall piece for its vibrance and so the wall didn't look so bare.

2 - Pretty much every house had a light switch near the door, but we didn't source one so I took out a few hours to make one, the base is from a piece of 2 cm mdf, cut downstairs in wood tech with curved edges and painted white, where as the switch is modelled from a 1950's light switch that i managed to make with a net graph. as seen below.

3 - is our table layout from above consisting of 2 plates /knifes and forks ( which we changed ) a selection of fruit to again bring colours to the image and a glass bottle of whisky to add presence.

4 - the Model of choice ready to strut her stuff, she was very much the ticket, her face and jaw like really fitted the part and brought a all round new feeling to the set, luckily salvadors girlfriend scouted her at the land minute.

5 - Myself in the set.

with the placement of the shelving on the right of the window, I thought it sat well as it brights a small semi circle flow from the top of the window frame, flowing into the shelving, then into the beautiful shape and curve of the light down into the sand, though it might lead the eye to other viewing perspectives of the image.

The flowers that christine bought looked ( and smelt ) lovely, bringing that plastic look to the image accompanied by the tea set covered in sand, and the 1950's house making magazines sitting in the corner playing as a metaphore for the perfect home.

I think the colours worked so well thoughtout the project allowing for a real bright and plastic feeling.

the sand finished off showing a real take back by the desert and bringing new stories to the piece.

burnt stick

Just an image I enjoy, burnt stick - 2012.

Newspaper / editing

Been working on layouts for about a week now in indesign, taking inspiration from many photographers now using the newspaper format to display there work to a wide range of people, its real nice to be able to pick up a free paper by a collaboration of artists of singular as it allows you to see new work easy and the creativeness they've gone to in there page designs.

So far for the cover i've taken inspiration from Alex soth & Ross mantel using a similar cover layout to ross mantels newspaper ( in the wake ) , but instead of an image, using a block of black colour, and a similar font from alex soths (from here to there:Alec Soths America). over the block of colour in white with just our names / Ashleigh Britten / Christine Sanderson / Sandra Grabolska / Joe Earley, then at the bottom i placed the word waste in black, below the block.

So far this is the cover, the black wraps around to the back cover too, its quiet a graphic style, very simple and effective, plus the newspaper being a collaboration, its nice to leave the images to the inside of the paper to cancel out any issues with people wanting to use there image amongst others.

As for the rest of the newspaper we felt it would be nice to keep a similar theme thought out keeping to the same fonts and styles, Having a different intro page for each artist, then leaving the other pages quiet simple with single of double images.

Going to have an index page  2 / 3 and then 23 / 24 will maybe have some writing too, dont think it looks right when an image is bleeding though onto the back page, plus there will be a block of colour too which will effect it.

Off into uni again tomorow to work with more ideas.

Relashionships/ideas - newspaper

looking into the Nike SB book for inspiration on layouts looking at the relationship between images with other images and also with text, I really like the almost full bleed images with a small section of writing top left next to the images, I think it will be nice to incorporate some small imagery and then to be hit by a full bleed page. the news paper at the bottom is another format I liked but would only work with certain images.

3 Newspapers.

Fanny Wacklin Nilsson "50 Photos Dictionary" (printed by the Newspaper Club)

Fanny Wacklin Nilsson creates a newspaper publication called ' 50 photos dictionary ' displaying 35mm photographs relating to selected words which are personal to herself. She explores how people relate differently to images when given a word to base them upon and how they conveys different things.

I feel its similar to what I was trying to portray in my cityscape series in the first semester, trying to make people look at things differently from how they would normally and allow them to have new mindsets on certain things.

Some people look at other things with such a creative eye, with different perspectives on life and feel they need to share those feelings via a publication, I think its important that they share how they see as it allows for inspiration and new ways or exploring the world.

The Guardian
The guardian is such a more widely spread newspaper known by millions of people as a publication allowing you to know everything that is going on in the world.

it involves such a wide spread area from lifestyle to the environment aiming at all types of people and not just one mindset.

Brainwash...
Hussey 25 "Social Networking - Portraits of New Social Media" (printed by the Newspaper Club)
Unfortunately I couldn't find how to view the newspaper on ' the newspaper club ' full size so I couldn't read upon the reasons but in my own interpretation via the images, he creates a publication based on one subject but flowering off and talking about different area's in the subject.

he starts off with exploring other peoples work including paintings being the earliest form of portraiture, then goes onto talk about his own series of work. It feels like a timeline in which portraiture has changed over the years and how social media has completely changed how we look at it through quick snapshot images at wrists length just to show the world what you look like.
