On my first environmental project titled ' Landscapes ' I got a tad confused with everything and didn't really know what was going on, when I actually wrote my presentation, I wrote it about something completely different and when I talked about the photographs, they didn't link properly to what I was saying.
So iv'e looked over everything and wanted to show more my recording of Research leading up to my initial idea all in one post.
My first thoughts where on a film iv\e been waiting to be released for about a year now called ' Somewhere to Disappear ' by Alec Soth, the series is about the desire to disappear & retreat from civilisation, people who just want to get away from everything, so he looks into photographing there life's and how they live. the set on his website is called Broken Manual, that include some photographs from the set.
I also find it amazing to how he tracks these people down, Just shows how much love and thought he puts into a project, and the research he must out go is incredible.
here are a few images that I found more inspiring.
Next on the list was David Spero, a photographer iv'e been following for some time, he made a series called settlements which consists of people who build & live in Eco friendly, low impact settlements, using local natural and recycled buildings, which are often in harmony with the surroundings set in dense forests. when you actually see the places, I become quiet jealous & envious of there life's, must be so satify'ing living life how you are suppose to really, how we adapt to survive. Must be so free'ing to wake up in the complete silence of the forest only to hear nature surrounding you. I'd wake up feeling proud everyday and go on adventures.
The research iv'e been doing is mostly surrounding the idea of getting away from society, I more want to base my 3 photographs on traces of people in the landscape, where a person once was & has left a item that represents a presents, which in my eyes is still the desire to get away from other people, to just chill out & do things you cant do around others, think about life ambitions and dreams, in some cases some people just want to vandalise, smash stuff us, I suppose in there eyes its freedom too, the feeling they can do anything without getting caught or bothering anyone else.
here are a few images from David Spero's series - settlements, would do anything to have a look around the houses, I bet the ingenuity is inspiring.
Another persons who's work literally blows my mind is Nich hance Mcelroy, when I first started looking at his work, I was just blown away by the locations he found and the places he found himself in that just worked so well for the series he was working on, called ' how to be alone ' in his work he photographs traces of people within beautiful landscapes, be they small huts or car tracks. but there just so dream like, you look at the photograph & your instantly want to be there and just take it all in, and capture everything on camera it has to offer. I feel sometimes I photograph I do forgot to enjoy what sits in front of me, sometimes i'm so overwhelmed by the thoughts of how its going to look printed, I really do forgot to take in at the time what sits in front of me. Its become a really bad habit, I went to a classic mini show once, and photographed so many cars, when I got home, I didn't remember any of them, or take the chance to look at interiors ect. so now i'm learning how to explore area's and enjoy everything there is to offer.
Anthony Hernandez - Landscape for the homeless.
I got this book out for the library to help me with my research, was a very interesting series on places of which the homeless have been present but arn't any longer, left behind beds, cigarette ends, alcohol, ect, puts a very stereotypical view on the homeless, let alone they are very powerful image, which share on the conditions of how some people live, some by choice, some by bad luck. the images are really quiet emotional, leaving thoughts in the back of your mind almost placing you in there position & make you think how hard it must be to live in such situations. in the direction from my project, it shows where someone once was but in completely different circumstances.
So after my research, I wanted to make 3 images of places in the landscape where someone once was too just do what they wanted to do. With each image shows presents & traces of human life.
