Body - Backdrop surfaces

For my body project, Im currently researching into surfaces photographers choose to photograph on when shooting portraits.

This photograph is by Ben Rayner, on Tuesday we tested our lighting techniques, I was hoping to get something simular to this, The curtains as a back drop give it a very seductive feel, and the way her top blends with the lines gives it flow her facial expression is really quiet natural, she has her head very slightly tilted down which draws the viewer, let a lone the stare you get from her eye which just makes it, its the first thing you look at & probably the last. the whole impressions you get from the photograph are soft feelings, and that real nice gradient from left to right, a drifting shadow.

I want to try look a little more in to how backdrops make a photograph interesting, some semiotics might come into this.
