Pastiche

I chose Jem Southam for my pastiche as iv'e enjoyed his work for a long time, Im gonna dig straight in and talk about my reasons for the photographs iv'e taken, I looked into the photograph I had chosen from ' The shape of time, Rockfalls, River mouths & waterfalls.

From research & sensed a large amount of erosion in his eyes, he was interested in how time affected the land, all about split second events & erosion & how land changes affected by either man made or natural causes, his aim was to record this via photographs.

He also mentioned about breakwaters in river mouths, so I visited the esplanade & planned my shoot until I had the right weather, I wanted to replace the rocks with houses & keep the breakwaters involved in the photograph to represent how we are trying to slow down erosion of the land to protect for a longer period of time. I kept a simular composision in the photographs I took, I wanted to keep that kind of Backwards L shape then it leading into the distance.

So yea, Ive been waiting for myst for so long & I finally got it, Jumped in my car at 7:30am locked and loaded with:

Mamiya RZ67
2x Fuji pro 160s
Tripod
Shutter release
My olympus Xa I use as a light metre.
& myself.

Location:

I parked up down the road & ran so I didnt miss the myst.. was such a rad experiance to finally be in the weahter I had been waiting for, for so long.

set up the camera & snapped 2 rolls of film in about 5 minutes, trying to keep within the composition I had chosen.

I jumped back in the car & the myst just started to clear, was a good break! back home for a few bits of toast and a tea, then straight into uni to get developing, even took my printing paper to do a couple of prints too. this is what I came out with.

Scanned on a Epson v700. - I Might do some other scans on the imacon for a proper print.

Think I might look into doing some more post work on them, try & get the colours simular so I have a nice set. the photos are both taken from the same place, just with the tripod spun around taking a photo from both sides. stoked :)
